Modern Body Festival believes in the importance of re-invented, disused sites in the forming of collectives and grassroots cultural activities in the Netherlands. We work with repurposed, reused locations, allowing ourselves to be influenced and inspired by the buildings and their histories.
This year, Modern Body Festival returns to two very special locations we inhabited in our previous biennial:
Theater De Nieuwe Regentes
Fri 2 & Sat 3 November 2018
Our performance program will once more be hosted at De Nieuwe Regentes, a much-loved cultural and historic venue. Erected in 1920, the beautiful building once housed the largest indoor swimming pool and baths in Europe. In 1996 the old swimming pool was covered and converted into a full proscenium theater, with the pool’s basin becoming one of The Hague’s most special halls, ‘Het Diepe’ (‘The Deep’). The theater also has a bar, tearoom, and 3 more halls. De Nieuwe Regentes functions as a neighborhood theater for the Regentessekwartier, with a broad mix of community, local and international programming in a warm and casual setting.

The Grey Space in the Middle (former GEMAK/Vrije Academie)
Fri 26 – Sun 28 October 2018
WHEN: Oct 26-28 (Exhibition, symposium, performances)
OPENING HOURS: 12:00 – 20:00
ADDRESS: Paviljoensgracht 20, 2512 BP The Hague
This year’s Modern Body Festival exhibition program will be hosted again at The Grey Space In The Middle, in The Hague’s city centre. The Grey Space is an open laboratory and presentation venue, only a few meters away from philosopher Baruch Spinoza’s house. Initially built as the former headquarters of a textile wholesaler, it was later modified to make ateliers, workshops spaces, and a gallery for the Vrije Academie. The Grey Space is an emerging venue for critical thinking and adventurous visual and performing arts, where art and digital culture unites with science, technology, and philosophy in an anti-disciplinary state.

Sat 3 November 2018
